The Rockies don’t do a great job advertising this race, in fact I didn’t even know if they were going to have the race this year until someone handed me a brochure for the race out on 16th Street Mall the other day. Previous to this week the website still had information that pertained to 2008. It’s a fun race, tough course, but the fact that you get two Rockies tickets more than makes up for your registration fees, thus it’s a great value if you like MLB and the Rockies of course.
In 2007, when I ran the race, I redeemed my tickets later that year and was surprised that they were in the lower tier. My seats were down the left field line about 30 rows up. In fact, I almost caught my first foul ball ever at that game. Garret Atkins was up and launched a shot right at me, foul ball, I saw it coming and the ball was headed right for my chest. Now this ball had no arc on it, it was a line drive, so I foolishly cupped my hands and tried to catch the ball.
Well the odds of me catching that ball were probably about the same as anyone trying to catch a pitch from Josh Becket with their bare hands. Smack! It hit my hands and bounced right out, the girl sitting in the seat above me was the recipient of my foolish act. My hand was blue and bruised for the rest of the week.
Anyway, check out this race and if you go to the Rockies game bring a glove.
