Lincoln Marathon Training Update

Six weeks to go until the Lincoln Marathon. I have three more weeks of solid training, perhaps four. I’m still debating on the three week taper versus the two week taper.

Ok, so here is the breakdown of my training for the past week:

Monday = 5.5 Miles Easy
Tuesday = 7.1 Miles Easy
Wednesday = 8 Miles Easy
Thursday =10 Miles
Friday = 8 Miles
Saturday = 7.5 Miles with 5 Mile Tempo Run in 31:51
Sunday = 20 Miles @ 7:04 pace; last five miles all under 6:40 pace

66.1 Miles total.

A good week of training. On my easy days I don’t run with a watch, so most of those runs are at 7:20 pace, approximately.

I was disappointed with the tempo run. Based off of my 7k race last Sunday, I should be doing my tempo run at 6:13 pace but I wasn’t able to run that fast on Saturday. I didn’t do any tempo runs last year, instead I did track work. I think it’s safe to say that a 5 mile tempo run is much harder than doing 3 miles of intervals on the track.

My long run today felt good. It was my third 20 miler of the year, and the best that I have felt on any long run so far, so that brings me confidence.

  1. why not split the difference and go with 2 1/2 weeks taper?

    Three is perhaps too much as you aren’t doing a massive amount of volume - but the quality is there.

    Interesting to run easy days without a watch - might try that
