I really think that fees to race has got out of control. It has got to the point where we needs laws passed that limit this sort of thing. It is just Big Business trying to take us little guys to the cleaners, and taking OUR races away from us. It is just like the whole deal with me trying to get Hannah Montana tickets... I could not afford what people were asking for, and that is just not fair!

WRONG! I'm a veteran marathoner (23) running 60 miles per week and I will probably never run NYC because of the high cost. I've run Chicago twice but, at $95, the only reason I did it was because my brother and sister were both also running it. If it's more than about $75 forget it. If that means I won't run marathons any more, so be it. I stopped running 5 and 10Ks a long time ago because of the high cost/mile involved. I'd rather just go run on some nice trails.

I think this guy is way off base and has little to no understading of the real world of marathon running in this country. The higher the entry fee, the more likely it is that the one-timers and foreign visitors will make up the majority of the entrants.

Veteran runners won't pay exorbitant fees; there are too many other good races to run more cheaply.

The price may stay the same but the "big corp" mentallity is now to make it up as an upsell.

Stay at the approved hotel, buy the approved upgraded race T shirt, get the approved race photo etc etc

The base price can then stay the same...

Interesting post! I can see where you're coming from but I think there would be a lot of not happy runners too.
