Independence Day in The Hawkeye State

7/01 = 5.5 Miles @ 7:42
7/02 = 7.1 Miles @ 7:40
7/03 = Off (Travleing to Iowa)
7/04 = 8.83 Miles (Iowa City) Easy Run
7/05 = 6 Miles @ 7:40 pace, Avg Heart Rate 163 (Burlington, IA)
7/06 = 8.13 Miles @ 7:50 pace, Avg. Heart Rate 160 (Hot & Humid) (Burlington, IA)

35.56 Miles Total. Ok week of training, didn’t hit the 40 miles that I was hoping for, but it’s hard to get the runs in when you’re on vacation. Plus, the Iowa humidity destroys me. I went for a run last night at 9pm, it was still 80 degrees out and 86% humidity. The humidity is really tough on me, coming from the dry air of Denver. What I really notice is how the sweat does not evaporate, thus by the time I am done running I am drenched in sweat, sweat in my eyes, my socks are drenched, etc.

I’m running the Roger’s River Run 5k in Longmont on Saturday. I ran this race in 2006, in 19:40. It was my coming out of retirement race (I returned to running after a six year lay off) and I was in ok but not great shape. I really have no idea what my time will be. I’m by no means in racing shape, so if I can break 19 minutes, I will be rather happy. So there it is, <19 minutes is my goal.
