The High Plains Fun Run in Englewood is serving up a timed 5K and a 1m race this Saturday. Check out their Facebook page for a great list of prizes that they will be giving away. Last year the 5K was won by Greg Reindl and Morley Wittenberg, the race had 128 finishers in their inaugural year. The one mile race had 121 finishers, great event for the kids!

Colorado's elite head to LA's Occidental College on Friday. The most interesting thing on the list is Sara Vaughn, traditionally a 1500m runner, making what I believe is her steeple debut.

Sure it's one of the country's lesser championships, but it still offers a $30k prize purse. And it looks to be Brianne Nelson's time to pick up a U.S. championship. No offense to the rest of the ladies, but Mattie Suver is all that stands in her way. Ever since high school, I have been a watch free runner. My coach insisted that stopping your watch at the finish line could mean getting passed at the last second due to lack of concentration. And honestly, I’ve seen that happen a fair amount. Now, for the average post collegiate runner, that probably doesn’t matter much. And especially for the target market of the watch we’re reviewing today, the ultra runner. If you’re like most trail runners, you probably get lost fairly easily. It’s part of the adventure. But, after a few “adventures” that turned into 8 hour, getting lost in the woods and can’t find the trail “adventures”, I knew it was time to find a way to stay safe.

Sure running is great, but travel really gets me going. Put the two together, along with family and a cute little dog, and you've got Justin Ricks' life. Since leaving his job last year, Ricks has been, as cliche as it is, living the dream. Now sponsored by La Sportiva and with a big win at the Moab Red Hot 55k earlier this year, he and his family are in the middle of a six-month road trip that's already taken them to the deep South, the mid Atlantic, and at the date of this writing, to Montana. Read on to see what Ricks, who still calls Pueblo home, has learned so far and about what adventures are ahead.
